Mid and East Antrim Borough Council proudly hosted an exciting Larne Community Cluster Showcase Event
The Larne community came together in a moving celebration on 20th June 2025 to mark the reopening of Bardic Drive Play Park, now lovingly dedicated in memory of Scarlett Rossborough. The rejuvenation of this vital community space was made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Larne Area Community Cluster, who played a significant role in funding the project and ensuring this was a truly memorable event for all.
The day was one of mixed emotions, as communities gathered to celebrate not only the restoration of this much-loved play park but also to honour the beautiful life of Scarlett Rossborough. Scarlett’s family, together with the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, officially reopened the park with a heartfelt ceremony and the unveiling of a stunning piece of artwork created by Scarlett’s friends.
Reflecting on the occasion, Mayor Jackson Minford said:
“It is great to see the completion of this work – such an amazing resource for local families. I am honoured to be joined by the Rossborough family. This play park has been refurbished as part of the Council’s Play Investment Framework and Out to Play Strategy. This strategy and ongoing investment demonstrate the importance placed on play throughout the Borough.”
The fun day was funded through the Larne Area Community Cluster — a community development initiative facilitated by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, which brings local groups together to collaborate, share expertise, and support one another in delivering real and lasting benefits for the area. Many community groups across Larne are actively involved in this cluster, helping drive collective action and enhancing community engagement.
This play park is just one example of the Council’s commitment to providing safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces for children and their families. The Council continues to work closely with elected members and local people to shape future developments through its Play Investment Framework and Out to Play Strategy, ensuring that every play space is designed with community input at its heart.
Thanks to all those involved in the Cluster working group and every individual who made this event such a success. The day’s joy, spirit, and togetherness stand as a wonderful tribute and a proud moment for the entire Larne community.
